Campaign for Real Ale

December 2013 - Keal Coates & Stickford

The group ready for the off.

Ten trekking topers traversed the slopes of the Wolds without troubling them when they set off from the Coach House at Keal Coates and made their way across several muddy fields. When the sticky stuff had been removed from boots the group found easier going along minor roads and field paths to reach the Red Lion at Stickford. Here welcoming real fires awaited along with Dixon's Rudolph's Revenge (4%) and XB and also of course the Strictly Stickford Cyder at 6%.

Half way house. Several rounds of drinks were enjoyed as Fen folk met up with friends old and new, local and nearby, and even golfing chums (don't mention golfer's elbow to the Chairman he thinks it's a myth!).

On then via grass fields, stiles and more minor roads alongside the East Fen Catchwater Drain to arrive back at the Coach House for more Dixon's Rudolph's Revenge and also Tom Woods Lincoln Gold, and an excellent lunch, not to mention the panoramic log burner.

A glass was raised to the intrepid trio who had recce'd the route and the pubs/beer and much was made of the member exiting under the the lunch table to reach the bar! The extreme measures some thirsty Fen folk get up to is almost beyond the pale! The day's event must rank as one of the few where all cask ales would qualify under the LocAle principle.
