January 2014 - Surfleet & Pinchbeck
25 Fen folk turned out on a crisp, sunny, winter morning at the Crown at Surfleet, on the 12th anniversary of Fenland walks, which were started, of course, way back by Heather and Rodney. It was a fitting tribute to Rodney that so many met up, and just next door to the pub where it all began.
Sunday's walkers crossed the bridge and set off down the bank of the River Glen and headed towards Pinchbeck. After carefully crossing the railway line the first port of call was the Ship - recently re-opened and which dispensed Spitfire in a steady stream to the sturdy strollers.
On the promise of a second stop in Pinchbeck the trekkers trooped out, on, and into the Bull for Wadworth Henry's IPA, also Bombardier and John Smiths Cask. The return trip was mainly via minor roads through the arable area.
Once muddy boots were changed and winter layers discarded then pints of Marston Pedigree were downed in the Crown where the real fire was a real winter warmer. After some delays lunch was served to the hungry throng and more pints of Pedigree were dispatched. Thanks to the recce men and also to Heather who organised the arrangements with the Crown.
