The Famous Five set off from the Heritage Old Kings Head on one of the hottest days of the year's Indian Summer. Thankfully Rosemary had adapted her walk to suit the conditions and the Five trundled past the church then took minor roads and paths, some with pleasant shade and passing some noticeable properties and gardens.

Eventually the route found its way past the Black Bull and so liquid relief was sought. The real ales on offer were Doom and Landlord and so Fenman , for the sake of scientific survey, opted for the Landlord, which was in good condition.

Lunch was taken at the Old Kings Head and the Sunday roasts were in top form. Although no cask ale is available at this preserved building bottle beers are on sale. A good day for surveying the Kirton pub and hotel.
