January 2024 - Spalding
A small group met up outside the Red Lion, Spalding, where Heather then led them across the road and through Ayscoughfee Hall gardens to admire topiary, the aviary, new tennis courts, and views of the grand old Hall itself.
On then via paths before turning into Matmore Gate to reach Coronation Channel, a wide waterway with wading birds and gulls. The Channel footpath took the walkers past the disused railway bridge before turning off the path to eventually join Halmer Gate and back into town.
Once boots were changed the party met in Prior's Oven where Austendyke HS2, Tydd Snake Eyes and Digfold Chiffchaff were dispensed straight from the cask and enjoyed by all. At the Red Lion the St Austell Secret Santa was on special offer at £3 a pint, alongside the Cornish Bitter and the renowned Bass. An excellent roast lunch was then taken.
