March 2011 - Pointon & Sempringham
From the Old Ship at Pointon the walkers took the public footpath in a westerly direction through the village, along good tracks and eventually breasting a low rise hill which afforded excellent views of Sempringham and Billingborough and surrounding areas and beyond.
The track led down to the site of the abbey and Princess Gwenllian's memorial at Sempringham where a saunter round the churchyard with its interesting slate and stone slabs, and site of the old well, proved of great interest to everyone.
Ivan then led his troops back to the Old Ship, which his parents used to keep in the late 1960s and 70s, where pints of Everards Tiger were dispensed to the eager Fen folk, and a good lunch was taken in the pub restaurant.
Thanks to Ivan and Liz for organising this enjoyable walk, and for Ivan's interesting local information.
