February 2011 - Haconby & Dyke
The forcasted wet weather held off fortunately as the Fenland footsloggers set off from the Hare & Hounds, Haconby. Stopping briefly to view the smallest chapel in the land (reputedly), the group made its way past the gaggling goose guarding its territory and through the churchyard and playing field and on to Morton.
Through the village, then several fields later arrived at the Wishing Well at Dyke, where muddy boots were removed and beers from Dixons (January Ale), Hopshackle (Caskcadia), Cottage (Rocket Ale), Oakham (Oblivion) were sampled and hit the spot.
The return journey was a longer detour than planned, due to the leader allowing himself to be distracted - proving the adage just because you lead a walk doesn't mean you know where you are going!
Nevertheless the weary band arrived back at the Hare & Hounds and were soon downing the Ringwood Porter and the Jennings Cumberland Ale before taking lunch in the dining room, and beating the rain in the bargain. The 2 beers were later changed to Brakespears Gold and Sweet Chariot. All in all excellent fare & beers.
