April 2015 - Horbling & Threekingham
Nigel led us off from the Plough at Horbling, across grass fields with sheep and lambs, under the tunnel of the disused Sleaford / Bourne railway and immediately the secateurs were in action to cut away brambles. It wasn't long before the bramble cutters were in use again to gain access across the bridge and stile. Blackthorn blossom was evident - will it be a good season for sloe gin fans? Also white violets were spotted by the eagle-eyed experts.
The Three Kings at Threekingham was soon reached and pints of Bass dispensed, along with the locals' favourite, TT Landlord, plus Speckled Hen. A lengthy stay in the pleasant sunny lounge ensued due to the late lunch expected at Horbling but eventually the gaggle were roused and trouped off for the return loop.
The Plough, Fenland CAMRA's Community Pub of 2014, had on regular beer Adnams Ghost Ship, along with Woodfordes Flagondry and Monty Python Holy Grail from Black Sheep. After some serious sampling lunch was taken in the bar and Ena and Nigel were toasted and thanked for organising the walk and lunch arrangements. The strong wind continued to blow from the west and helped the lone cyclist return home, but not before a sharp shower had doused him.
