Campaign for Real Ale

August 2015 - Tetford

The thought of a 6+ mile walk did not deter 20 trekkers as they set off from the White Hart at Tetford, crossing grass fields and some well pathed crops and excellent views of the Wolds. Following a stretch of minor road the parkland of Massingberd estate was reached and to many this area being the highlight of the walk.

White Hart, Tetford At the Massingberg Arms

The Massingberd Arms was a welcome halfway house where Oldershaws Barkston Bitter and Thwaites Original were enjoyed in the pub's beer garden. The return journey via parkland, tracks and fields saw the butterfly spotters delighted to find hosts of tortoiseshell, peacocks, comma, gatekeeper, speckled wood, whites, and painted ladies (there may be some poetic / fauna licence here) on the wild flowers at the trackside.

Returning to the White Hart, and boots thankfully removed, the beers of Rev James and Bombardier slaked thirsts and a tasty lunch was taken in the Tea Shop.
