A typical country inn with low beams and tiled floor and in a pleasant setting. Extensively and tastefully redecorated in 2012 and reopened after two years closure. The welcoming multi-roomed pub has two connecting small bars, is a popular dining one with a varied, extensive menu. An outdoor bar in the garden is a feature in the warmer seasons. The pub is known to date from at least 1665, the date of the Great Plague of London, but this may have been when the pub was restored. Previously it was said to have been called the “ Mariner’s Rest”, and the “Sailors Rest”, even further suggestion that Bicker was once an inlet of the Wash. Today Bicker is some 8 miles (13 km) from the sea, but was once on a large tidal inlet known as Bicker Haven.
