November 2018 - Sleaford and Leasingham
Clear skies and sunshine greeted the Fenland walkers as they met in the Market Place at Sleaford. After a photo by the cenotaph Keith and Ivan led the lucky thirteen through streets and alleyways and across fields to reach the busy A17 Sleaford bypass where the gauntlet was run and a safe crossing accomplished. On then via further fields, apparently having Roman remains, and past the biomass / biosphere. Ivan provided tasty pasties for several of the the wilting walkers, which were gratefully received.
Further nooks and crannies (or was that crooks and nannies?) of Leasingham to eventually reach the Duke of Wellington. Beers on offer at this recently acquired pub by the local community were Thwaites Wainwright, TT Landlord and Marstons Pedigree. The Wainwrights seemed to be a popular choice, but found to be a little 'tired', as one walker put it. The Chairman seemed to have found a new skill and was spotted serving coffee cups. A sight which had not escaped one of our walk leaders, and which did not impress !!
Five of the party made their excuses and left early for the return journey via Leasingham village and the Sustrans cycle route crossing the bridge over the Sleaford bypass and footpaths into town. Unfortunately none of the walkers has been prepared to let us know which Sleaford hostelries were visited and beers sampled.
Thanks to Keith and Ivan for organising the walk, and the glorious weather.
